08.28.08 | Fun Around Here

It is interesting what we get to talking about around here...Here Nathan and Sarah are measuring each other. :-) So far, Nathan has only 1.75 inches to go before passing Sarah!

The boys have been having fun playing ball--today the girls watched a great game of it! The score ended up 8:10, & it was a great show! Here's Nathan, about to shoot the ball into space...

...and Jonathan, catching it...

Sarah played some too, in another game...

08.18.08 | Christian Family Entrepreneurship Seminar

The Lord made it possible for us to go to this conference held by the Hayden family in Witchita, KS, on Saturday. We usually do not go away during the summer since we milk the goats twice a day. The Lord provided our friend, Roxane, to come to our home to take care of our animals. Thank you, Roxane! Wade Myers was the guest speaker, and Jesse & Crystal Paine gave a short talk on their home business. There were about 300 attendees. We were greatly blessed to meet and fellowship with the Hayden and Serven Family.

Ready to go to the conference Saturday morning

08.08.08 |Well, there IS water!

Today, we found out there are 8 gallons of water per minute in the second drilled well. While that is not a lot of water, it is sufficient for us if we get a cistern. This well is across a big ravine, much farther than we expected it to be, so the pipe will have to run under the creek bed and then to the house. Obviously, this will cost more BUT at least there is water on the property! It is amazing how thankful we are for the second well, even with the added expense. It is much better than no water on the property. After 11 months of owning this property, we now have the dam repaired and the well dug. We never thought it would have taken this long to get only these two things completed. Last year, we thought we would be moved in by this time. Just another reminder that God's timing is not our timing, nor His plans our plans. It certainly keeps us seeking His guidance.

Today we went to the property to meet with Travis, the excavation guy, to get an estimate for him to clear the house site and driveway.

Talking to Travis about the house site

Taking measurements of the land

This afternoon, Dad talked with our friend, Joshua, about an estimate for finishing the inside of the new house. They're also exploring less costly building options since prices are going up, and things are not working as Dad planned financially; he wants to retire and work at home with the family. We're praying the Lord will show us His will, as things aren't falling into place.

08.05.08 | Drilling for the Well!

Finally, after many weeks of waiting for the well driller, he was able to start drilling today. We were very excited since we have not wanted to start building until we know there is water on our property. When we arrived at the property, the drillers were on lunch break, so we ate our lunch and waited.

When the drillers returned a while later, they announced: No water! We were honestly, very surprised; everything indicated that water should be there. They drilled 100 feet with only a trickle of water and limestone at the bottom. Those were a difficult few minutes. After talking with the well diggers about other options, they thought the only other spot to drill would be across the ravine on the other side of the property. Mom called our excavation guy to get a price for digging the pipes under the creek, and across to the house site. Then she talked to Dad...After discussing the options and sites and price, Dad decided to do another test across the ravine. If there is no water at this site, we are out of options. It took about an hour to drill again, and that hour seemed so long sitting/standing in the scorching sun. When they finally stopped, we were told that the sides were caving in and they needed to get a larger pipe to hold the area open. They will return tomorrow. We were disappointed that we still did not know if there is water on the property. At least the sand indicated some water. How much, though? They will call us tomorrow after they finish drilling.

08.01.08 | Overnight Trip

Dad surpised mom with an overnight birthday outing. Everything went well here and I hope that Mom had an enjoyable time!

Dad gave Mom short notice that they were leaving; it was remarkable how quickly she packed and that she could carry all her baggage with two hands - normally when we pack, we PACK!

We children did normal chores...and played legos,

And dried cherry tomatoes, and played music, and much more.

They came home Saturday morning, rested and relaxed!
