Trip 2010: Oklahoma City Memorial

After touring the Cowboy Musuem, we went to see the Oklahoma City National Memorial. It was a beautiful tribute to the 168 lives that were lost on April 19, 1995, in the Oklahoma city bombing.

These empty chairs are a continual shining reminder of those who lost their lives in this tragedy

The Crew, near the Survival Tree which survived the bombing

This is one of the gates erected on each end of the site; each has a still clock; one is at 9:01 and the other is at 9:03. The bombing was at 9:02. Very beautiful, yet sobering how an act of one person can affect so many lives.
The same gate the next morning

The next morning, we returned to briefly tour the museum. Photography was not allowed inside, but here are Nathan and Rachael outside of the building
From there, our plan was to go on to Dallas. God's plan? The weather forecast: [see where we were and where we wanted to go on the red line]. We quickly decided NOT to continue south...so we did the only thing we could do - head back north - before the storm hit us in Oklahoma!

Trip 2010: The Adventure Begins

Time for our annual vacation!
We usually take our "summer" vacation in February, while the goats are dried up. Kidding season begins in March. This year, we could not decide where to go, though we had many ideas and suggestions. We wanted to go north, but the roads were snow packed with ice and there were storms moving through the east of us. The weather radar showed storms all around the state of Kansas. This was one of the many reasons we saw the Lord did not give us definite direction as to where to go. Tom decided that South looked the safest.
So, we set out on a brand-new adventure for the Bryant family; not knowing where we were headed is NOT how we usually do things! Thankfully God had a plan!

Everyone had their own little camera

Or for others, pretty new stationery to use!

We thought we would head in the general direction of Dallas, Texas, and visit some museums that sounded educational and interesting. En route, while in Oklahoma City, we visited the National Cowboy Musuem. It was unexpectingly enlightening!

A marble statue of Abraham Lincoln. As Maggie guessed, the picture in the previous post, "Can You Guess," was taken of the marble sculpture called "Canyon Princess" from the Cowboy Museum also, and is 18 feet tall and weighs 16,000 pounds.

Play and Fun Together

Watching the play
Recently, some of our friends helped organize and participate in the play "A Man for All Seasons." A tremendous amount of time and work went into this event, and we greatly enjoyed attending it. All of the actors were under the age of 20 - and were very talented and well-practiced. Great job, guys!

All of the actors

After the play we had dinner together with friends...

Then the rest of the crew from the play joined our "party" - what a fun and lively time we enjoyed together! Here are Sarah and Meagan...

...and here are the boys excitedly talking about the fun scenes

PAIR Day

Dr. Jones, from Jones Chiropractic
Last weekend Dr. Jones, our local chiropractor, asked us to share a booth with him at PAIR day on Fort Leavenworth. This was a great opportunity to talk with new people in our area and share brochures and information about Bryant Family Farm.

Meeting new people

We met a new family to our area, the Troyn family - what a blessing! They very generously invited us to their home after we closed shop at PAIR day

Quilting Classes

Barbara helping the children piece their squares
While living in Korea in 1999, we were fortunate to have a quilting teacher come to our home to teach Brandon, Sarah and I how to quilt.
Sarah was seven years old when Barbara Eikmire taught us, and her quilt was published in Barbara's second book. It was a very special time. Barbara has written two children's books and is a supurb teacher. A few weeks ago, while grocery shopping, I noticed a lady who looked familiar, but I could not place her face. I finally figured out that it was Barbara! I was thrilled, to say the least! What a blessing to see her after all these years.
It did not take long to ask Barbara to teach the rest of our children quilting - and she agreed! We are having so much fun as she comes to our home once a week. She works so well with the children and enables us all to succeed as we make matching quilts. What a tremendous blessing to have her teach us - and to have her teach all six of our children is truly a wonder!

Wonderful Friends

How good it is to see old friends! We met Tonya in 1993, while we were stationed in Virginia. She was visiting the States from Siberia, sponsored by a Christian organization. Linda, Jennie and our family were all stationed at Ft. Belvoir at the same time Tonya visited Virginia in 1993. After all these years, she was able to come back for a visit to the U.S. this past month. Our dear friend, Jennie, drove her from Georgia to Kansas. What a blessing to see Tonya after all these years, and of course, to see Linda and Jennie again.
