New Yard-Art
Saturday | November 29, 2008

A friend brought us our first round hay bales today. We are finally able to facilitate these huge bales which weigh at least 1000 lbs each.

Fun to climb on...Thankfully, our "yard-art" didn't have to stay in the front yard long...dad hauled it off to our hungry cows.

Thanksgiving
Friday | November 28, 2008

Did you know that the phrase "for his mercy endureth for ever" occurs forty times in the Bible? All but eight are in Psalms, and many are connected with the preface "give thanks unto the Lord." Today, in a Christian nation, as God's people, amidst a world that is hurting lacking, let us give thanks unto our great God for His great mercy, blessing, endurance, and love torward us!

O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good:
for his mercy endureth for ever.
O give thanks unto the God of gods:
for his mercy endureth for ever.
O give thanks to the Lord of lords:
for his mercy endureth for ever.
To him who alone doeth great wonders:
for his mercy endureth for ever.
Who remembered us in our low estate:
for his mercy endureth for ever:
And hath redeemed us from our enemies:
for his mercy endureth for ever.
Who giveth food to all flesh:
for his mercy endureth for ever.
O give thanks unto the God of heaven:
for his mercy endureth for ever. (from Psalms 136)

Our Newest Assets...
Wednesday | November 26, 2008

Hello! We are the newest additions to Bryant Family Farm

The boys' new investment: Pure-bred Registered Berkshire pigs. The boys each purchased a pig to raise and sell next spring. We will add naturally raised pastured pork to our product list come spring. Let us know if you are interested in purchasing some!

Picking up the pigs to bring home...

The boys say they're "sweet," "cute," "friendly," and "fun." Most of the rest of the family have never assoicated these words with PIGS!

We are busy with preparations for tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day. Are you preparing your heart for lifting grateful hearts to God? Let us thank Him for His boundless blessings upon each one of His children.

Watch Wars
Monday | November 24, 2008

"Ready...aim...fire! Gottcha!"
Using the sunlight and their watches, the boys had a fun war today. Jonathan was beaming Nathan with his watch while Nathan, here, was aiming his light strike

Then, Jonathan decides to attack the photographer!
[don't worry; "I shot him with my Canon!"]
Quote borrowed from a friend of the family

Today Mom assigned us the task of planning menus for the week...which was easy, as long as we won't be the cook! We had entirely too much fun doing this, although I only took a photo of everyone diligently working.

Anniversary Dinner
Friday | November 21, 2008

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad! Rachael planned a special candle light dinner for our dear parents...

Rachael enjoyed planning the menu...Salad, homemade rolls, crab dip and crackers, homemade honey-butter, home-grown steaks, potatoes, and brownie pudding for dessert. What a delicious meal everyone helped prepare! Rachael picked out pretty cloths and dishes for the table and gathered many candles for a relaxing atmosphere

Everyone pitched in to help:
Jonathan is making mom's mushrooms

Samuel is making the salads. Mom's favorite dried tomatoes are in the foreground

Nathan faithfully grilled the steaks, out in the cold and dark; it is very cold out! I gave him a hot potato to take outside while he was grilling, to warm his hands

Serving dinner...

Mom and Dad, enjoying a quiet meal. Jonathan told mom that she needed to have meals like this more often so that she would live longer!

Special Holiday Snacks
Saturday | November 15, 2008

The finished product

We enjoy this homemade Salami during the holiday seasons

2- 1/2 lb ground beef, elk, deer or turkey
2- 1/2 tsp. tender curing salt (we use sea salt)
1- 1/4 tsp cracked pepper
1- 1/4 tsp. mustard seed
1- 1/4 tsp. garlic salt
1/2 tsp. hickory smoke salt (we use Braggs Aminos)
Optional Spices to use to taste: chili powder, thyme, dry mustard, pepper, sage, or other seasonings of your choice. This recipe can easily be doubled and made ahead of time.

In glass bowl, mix meat and spices well. Cover and refrigerate 3 days; mix well each day. On 4th day, mix well and shape into 3 rolls. Place on broiler rack and bake 180-200 degress for 6- 8 hours, or until cooked thoroughly. Cool on rack; wrap in foil and keep refrigerated or frozen until serving. These will stay fresh in refrigerator for 3 weeks or in freezer 6 months.

A generous hunting friend of Dad's gave us deer and elk meat -- and lots of it: we've been busy grinding, cooking and freezing it

We ground 9 pounds of elk roast to make our salamis. After cooking them, we will freeze them for a ready-made meal or snack -- just reheat and eat! Our boys especially like this treats

A Sovereign God
Wednesday | November 12, 2008

What great comfort it is to us as Christians to know that our God is in control. Though it has been hard for me to accept the election results, I know God can use the outcome to glorify Himself.

My dad is concerned for our future. “On 11 September 2001 I was very concerned about our nation because I understood what that war had been declared and what that would cost in terms of life & treasure. I didn't, however, worry about our existence or future. Today I am concerned about our future. Not being much of a prophet, I hesitate to deem this a judgment, but it appears to have all the makings of one.”

Yet, as He always has been, “God is still in charge. In that we can rest. We now must pray for His wisdom and grace.” Dad has also encouraged us to pray for our new President-elect.

It is assuring to remember that God will not forsake His people. As Rebecca Serven states on her family's blog, "Even if our country is headed for some challenging times, God's people win. Because, they know the ultimate Victor. And He will prevail."

I have often prayed for revival in our nation. It seems that this election may be the catalyst to that prayer; maybe we needed this as a wake-up call.

As the Israelites would become complacent in their religious zeal, God used various means to turn their hearts back to Him. Often, God used the captivity of another wicked ruler to turn the Israelites to God, as they cried out for mercy and deliverance.

In an age where men are turning further from God, let us pray He will use these times to bring us back to Him. Oh God, further Your Kingdom and Your Glory.

We saw a Bald Eagle last week about a mile from our house. The photo was taken as the van was moving and through the window, so the picture is not great. What a beautiful sight to see!

Here's a ladybug that was eating with us last night at the dinner table. She liked the lettuce

Fun in the leaves!

God Is In Control
Wednesday | November 5, 2008

Preserve me, O God:
For in you do I put my trust.
…I have set the LORD always before me:
Because he is at my right hand,
I shall not be moved.
Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices:
My flesh also shall rest in hope.

You will show me the path of life:
In your presence is fullness of joy;
At your right hand there are
Pleasures for ever more. ~From Psalm 16

The Duty of God's People
Monday | November 3, 2008

We listened to a tape by S.M. Davis entitled, "The Kingdom of Your Influence." I thought there were several good thoughts in it that is applicable to us during this election -- the duty God's people have to cry out for God's leading in setting up a president. Are we doing our duty -- in our vote, and in our prayer?

God is the one who removes people from power; God is the one who puts people in power; and a lot of what God does has to do with what His people do. If God’s people cry out to God for righteous leaders and rulers, and if they do what they're supposed to do in relation to the government...

Our key responsibility is to win souls, and yet we forget that it is easily an excuse for some to ignore our responsibility in the area of citizen and country. God created three organizations: #1, the home; #2, the church; and #3, the government. We do have responsibility to government. If our home is not what it ought to be, we need to pray. If our church is not what it ought to be, we need to pray. If our government is without a proper leader, what are God’s people supposed to do? Supposed to fall on their face and cry out to God! "O God, give us a righteous man! A man with righteous principles!" Because God is the one who reigns and sets up leaders in the kingdoms of men.

...I believe that God is giving Christians their last opportunity to wake up and have a powerful influence on our country, and cry out to God that a man with righteous principles could go into president of the United States. And unashamedly speak it, and unashamedly pray it, and cry out to God.

Are we crying out to God for righteous leaders? Each and every one of us can make a difference!

Autumn Colors
Saturday | November 1, 2008

Autumn is a beautiful time of year

Notice our little wether on the right, in his pen

This cat "adopted" us last winter, and is a beautiful cat. He matches the leaves perfectly!

He and I had a little "cat nap" -- a little rough for me, as I was about to fall off the hammock

The children love playing in their homemade tree "fort," (made from crates and boards) especially in this pleasant weather!

The sunset was beautiful tonight as well
