10.25.07 | Update

Not much has happened toward finding out information on a house site. We need to get an estimate on the dam work. Dad is considering putting a KanBuild Home, which are custom made in the factory. We have contacted the office in Topeka and need to go there and talk to them about plans for the house to get an estimate. We're not sure when we'll do that since next weekend we're heading to Columbia, MO for the Annual Farm Trade Show, which we've attended for the past 3 years (And made lots of friends!). We're really looking foward to that!

10.25.07 | Once again...at the land

This week Mom's parents are visiting from SC. It has been an enjoyable visit with them. Today we took Mom's parents to our land. We had a fun hotdog cookout for lunch.

Eating lunch! Yummy hotdogs...

We took our "2007 family picture" on our new property at the remains of a barn/house. We had not planned to take the picture, but since we had someone who could take it, we thought it would be a good time to do so. Mom says we look like a bunch of hillbillies, but I say, what are we other than hillbillies?!

10.13.07 | A Cold and Blustery Day...

We went to our new property near Holton, KS. The day started out with very heavy thunderstorms and rain here at home, and when we checked the weather online for Holton, it didn't look much better. But after a few minutes, the radar showed that the bulk of the large storm had passed Holton and we decided to go ahead and drive up to look at the property for the location of our new home.

All eight of us had to pile in our extended-cab Ford truck. That's bad enough in itself, especially for us larger back-seat riders (or sardines). We were also hauling our Ford 8-N ancient tractor on our 16-foot long trailer.

Unloading the Ford 8-N at the property (to the right of the trailor). This is the "main road" accessing our land; our quarter-section continues straight ahead in this picture

When we finally arrived at our "beautiful property" , the rain had calmed down and Dad unloaded the old tractor. No sooner than he had gotten it down the ramp, lightning hit a few "blocks" away. We all jumped when the thunder cracked loudly right overhead! Try to picture us all, except Dad, who was on the tractor, piling into the truck again, any-which way, any-where, on anyone. But we made it and preceded to watch Dad brush-hog a small area of the land at the gate...in the lighting. He later reassured us that he was safe since the tractor tires were rubber. It also started raining. When Dad fininshed cutting, we drove around to the other side of the property (it borders two dirt roads) and got out to begin the REAL adventure...walking the land. We all piled out, crawled into our coats, (it was now sprinkling and quite cool) and jumped into our boots. Then we set off.

We ended up looking at several spots to put the house. But really, it is a hard decision. After lunch, we looked at the other half of the land.

Then we found JUST the Place! The place is rather on a hill, surrounded by woods. It overlooks a beautiful scenery, facing toward the road. It is on the top left corner of our square of land.

But in order to build there, we'd need to fix the dam to a "pond" run-off that you have to cross to get to the spot. Dad thinks this would cost $15,000 or more to repair. I hold out faith that it won't cost that much. We are praying that God will make the way straight and clear for us in all the details.

Some pretty clouds we passed on way home from land

When we got home this afternoon, Samuel, as usual, had to collect our chicken eggs. When he returned, he brought some pretty flowers for Mom, and a brood of eggs in his hat!

10.07.07 | Our Neighbors

Our neighbors, the Kyles, invited us for a cookout at their home. The first day we were out on the land, they saw us and stopped by to meet us. The the next time we went to the land, we found a envelope taped to the fence with an invitation from them. This was such a blessing to us!

Tonight we went to their home for a cookout. Their home is neat, a beautiful setting on their 20-acre lake. The sunset was beautiful reflecting on the lake. It was a blessing to us to have such wonderful Christian neighbors.

And so does everyone else!
