Harvesting Sorgum Saturday | October 31, 2009
Sorghum canes before harvest
Last weekend we traveled an hour away to observe friends harvest their sorghum crop. The weather was beautiful -- perfect for being outside, learning and being with friends.
Talking with our friends Jack and Deborah
Eating lunch
The sorgum feeding through the horse-driven press
From this side you can see the pail that the sap drains into
After the sap/juice drains from the press, it is poured into a large tub that strains it; at this point it is a light green tint
After straining, it is poured into the vat which is on a brick fireplace, heated by wood. It cooks down for about 7 hours; the end result is a thick, dark, sweet-tasting syrup
The finished product. You harvest about 1 gallon of sorghum from 8 gallons of sap; this is a labor-intesive job but the product is delicious! We use it when we make our granola and also make sorghum-butter for our hot-out-of-the oven biscuits. Soo good!

Visit with Brandon, Part 1 Tuesday | October 27, 2009
Brandon arrives for a visit!
We were thankful that Brandon could visit this past weekend, since it will be a while until we visit again. We enjoyed our time together, catching up on news and stories, which can get quite interesting...
Enjoying lunch together and talking
Word searches
The whole crew...minus the photographer (Dad this time)
We cruised around Cabela's, where the men enjoyed looking at guns and other manly items
The ladies had their own fun while the men shopped: in the form of self-portraits via "tripod"/timer. It was quite an interesting site as we set the camera on nearby trash cans or shelves and jumped in the picture! This one actually turned out good...
Then we all reconvened at the "laser shooting gallery" for some target practice
...All worn out and ready to head home!

It's a ...Jersey! Thursday | October 15, 2009
...Jersey heifer!!
Correct guess, Cecilia and Shiloh.
As written in the saga here, we've been looking for a dairy cow for many years. This week, the Lord has graciously provided! Next spring she will calve and we will begin milking her. We are looking forward to fresh butter, cream, cheese... But we are not getting our taste buds ready just yet; we have learned not to "count our chickens before they hatch," or in this case, the "heifer before she delivers."

Now For Sale: Grass-Fed Beef Saturday | October 10, 2009
Bryant Family Farm's Fresh Grass-Fed Beef!
This week has been extremely busy as we took our first fall steer to the butcher. We watched the butcher cut and wrap the beef; that night for dinner we enjoyed fresh delicious hamburger and rib eye steaks for a very special meal.
Two days later, we picked up the beef and had customer pick up when we arrived home.It was great seeing old friends and new customers, thank you to all who purchased beef!
Four hogs travel to the butcher this weekend, so fresh pork will be on the menu in about 10 days. We have almost sold all the pork, so order yours now if you want pork for the the winter. It will be April before we butcher hogs again.
Getting hamburger ready for customer pick up...
Garden Produce: Lettuce Tuesday | October 6, 2009
We have had some wonderful lettuce this fall from our garden - perfect for our salads.
Computer Crash Friday | October 2, 2009
The computer I use to design and edit KBR magazine, graphic/web design, and edit photos, crashed.
Despite the inconvenience of being without my computer for several weeks, I have so many reasons to thank the Lord! If something like this could be well-timed, this was. We finished the latest issue of KBR the day before my computer crashed. The completion of this issue would have been delayed by many weeks if it had gone any sooner. To me, that is a huge reason for praise!
Another way the Lord has been merciful through this situation is my computer was backed up the week before it went down.
It is also a blessing that my computer is still under warrenty since it was only several months since my parents gave it to me. It is now at the manufacturer - about everything had crashed, and it will be repaired without cost.
I am so thankful that the Lord's timing is perfect!
